GNSS testing covers a broad range of applications, from validation and certification of equipment and applications to support to R&D activities, either in laboratory or in real environments (e.g. field testing or data collection). Furthermore, testing plays a relevant role in the lifecycle of a new product from its design up to its validation and certifications stages, support to design of equipments prior to availability of a GNSS or even assessment of the integration of several GNSS Systems and further sensors.
European GNSS Simulation and Testing Tools Infrastructure (GSTI)
Simulation and testing activities are considered a key enabler for the uptake of GNSS markets. In order to prepare for the advent of EGNOS and Galileo, the European Commission has launched the development and implementation of the European GNSS Simulation and Testing Infrastructure (GSTI) aiming at:
- Facilitating access to the available European simulation tools and testing facilities to any interested user;
- Promoting coordination among the different initiatives and encouraging synergies between tools and facilities;
- Ensuring that the needs expressed by the potential users are covered by the deployed testing infrastructure.
The portal is a collaborative platform intended to support both developers of GNSS applications or equipments, and providers of GNSS testing and simulation tools or testbeds, including the following tool categories:
- RF signal generator
- Software signal generator
- Field test bed
- Software receiver
- Anechoid chamber
- Signal recorder
- Signal propagation simulator
- Service volume simulator
- Test bench for receivers
- Hardware receiver or front-end
- Reference network
